Freek Ariese

Dr Freek Ariese is Associate Professor at LaserLaB Amsterdam (Institute for Lasers, Life sciences and Biophotonics). This interdisciplinary institute was established at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, with participating research groups at the UvA and AUMC.  The mission of LaserLaB Amsterdam is to perform groundbreaking scientific research based on the interaction of light with matter, spanning from the research on atoms and molecules to the investigation of living cells and tissue and sustainable energy sources. LaserLaB Amsterdam is part of LASERLAB-Europe, an Integrated Infrastructure Initiative of the European Union, forming a consortium of over 30 major laser centers.

Nowadays his main research activities are focused on Raman spectroscopy, including Raman microscopy, resonance Raman, stimulated Raman scattering (SRS) and time-resolved Raman methods for depth analysis and fluorescence rejection. He teaches various spectroscopic courses at the bachelor, master and PhD level, and also spent a few years as visiting scientist at the Indian Institute of Science in Bangalore, focusing on special applications of Raman spectroscopy.
